Syracuse Herald Journal 5/12/1912
Mary Radford, widow of John Radford found in the Syracuse City Directory as early as 1891 living at 646 So. West St., Syracuse, New York. She continues to live at that address until the City Directory of 1910 and 1911 lists Mary Radford as a boarder in the home of Charles M. Osborn at 213 Tompkins St., Syracuse, New York. Charles being the husband of Mary's daughter Elizabeth.
The 1900 Federal Census lists Mary Radford as a widow living at 646 So. West St., Syracuse, NY.
Her birth date is listed as March 1847 at age 53. Place of birth is Ireland , year of immigration is 1860. She is mother to 3 children of which 1 is living at this time.
These give different birth dates.
The 1912 City Directory lists as follows: "Radford, Mary A. widow of
John died 5/24/1912, age 72". This would indicate that Mary was born in
1840 as is listed on her headstone.
John Radford and Mary Reagan had the following children:
GEORGE H. RADFORD
The headstone is weathered and worn and hard to read, but I believe the year is 1888 at 21 years . I have not been able to find an obituary.
ELIZABETH RADFORD. She married CHARLES M. OSBORN. He was born about 1855.
He died on 06 Apr 1918.
I'm not sure if the correct name is Elizabeth or Margaret or maybe Elizabeth Margaret. The anniversary articles list her as Margaret as does the 1900 Federal Census. But, the obituary for Charles Osborn lists her as Elizabeth. Also, the one photo we have is marked Maggie.
1920 Syracuse City Directory states that Elizabeth Radford Osborn moved to Philadelphia, Pa.
Charles M. Osborn was the proprietor of C.M. Osborn Coffee Roasting Mill, a shop specializing in teas and coffees.
Elizabeth and Charles Osborn had four children:
LYMAN OSBORN
CARLTON OSBORN
JOSEPHINE OSBORN
MARGARET OSBORN
WELCOME
Welcome to our blog about our family ancestry. Jim and John and I have been researching our family tree since the mid 1990's in hopes of finding our "homeland" in Ireland. But, we have hit the proverbial "brick wall" but have not given up hope. We knew that we were descended from Patrick Reagan / Regan/ O'Regan and Bridget Gilvie. Family stories tell us that Patrick was from County Cork, Ireland and Bridget was a native of County Mayo, Ireland and that Patrick had brothers Thomas and Jeremiah and sister Catherine. In my research, I found that there also was a brother Daniel, possibly the youngest and another sister Mary. I also found that their parents were Thomas Reagan /Regan/O'Regan and Margaret Sheehan. This was a big find for us because we had never been told of them. These are our Irish Immigrant Ancesters. They were all born in Ireland and some married in Ireland and came to America in the 1840's - 1850's to find a better life due to the Potato Famine in Ireland.
